Some students in Maryland are attending the first day of classes in a new school named for President Barack Obama
.
Barack Obama Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, opened its doors for the first time ever this morning.
The school day started with a ribbon cutting ceremony before young minds were allowed to enter its hallowed halls.
This is not the first institution to be named after the commander-in-chief. A school in Hempstead, New York, was renamed in the president’s honor last year. However, the school in Upper Marlboro will be the first of its kind in the Washington D.C. area.
