Couple: Rick Fox & Cheryl Burke
Rick knows he was a little stiffer than need be for the Argentine Tango, and he vowed to change for the Rumba he had to pull off this round.
“Last week, I was, apparently, a transformer. This week, with the Rumba, I’m going to transform into a lover,” he said before acknowledging that could pose a serious challenge.
“There’s a short amount of time for Cheryl to imprint into me a lot of information. Sometimes I don’t get it as quickly and it frustrates her.”
To get Cheryl to understand how he learns, he took her to meet some of his old colleagues—namely, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and the team’s coach Phil Jackson—who told her that Rick has to put in long hours to be at the top of his game.
“It was very enlightening to hear that Rick is a perfectionist,” said Cheryl. “I need to trust Rick and know that at the end of the day, he will always deliver.”
The dancing wasn’t bad, but there was just something lacking in their connection that made it slightly awkward to watch. Technically, their routine went very well, though.
From the fits of giggly girlyness that was Carrie Ann’s critique, we’ll assume the she liked Rick’s Rumba. Len, however, wasn’t as impressed.
“I didn’t get the feeling of a developing romance. It was more like a couple staying together for the children,” he said.
Bruno thought Rick made an amazing transformation from last week, stating, “In a week, you went from Megatron to mega smooth, man.”
Overall, he was able to woo 24 points from the judges.
