The Princess and the Frog release leaps forward

     

    Princess Tiana is hitting the silver screen a little sooner than expected.

    Disney has pushed up the national release of The Princess and the Frog by two weeks, Variety.com reports.  The movie will now be premiering on December 11, so Princess Tiana is hitting the silver screen a little sooner than expected.

    The Princes and the Frog would have been going head-to-head with Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel had it debuted on its intended release day, Christmas.

    The movie will have a limited release in New York and Los Angeles during the Thanksgiving Holiday on November 25.  According to Variety, Disney is using the L.A. and NYC premieres to generate a buzz about the movie.

    The Princess and the Frog is set in New Orleans will see a return to Disney classic 2-D feature length musicals.  Anika Noni Rose voices the lead role of Princess Tiana, who is Disney’s first Black princess.  Oprah Winfrey will be providing the voice for Tiana’s mom.

    Disney Consumer Products unveiled a line of dolls for the movie last month at the American International Toy Fair in New York last month.
