Sheila E.’s ‘Gone Country’

Entertainer Sheila E.’s traded guitars for fiddles with her win this week on Country Music Television’s reality show "Gone Country."

The premise of the show (in case you’re not familiar) is sort of like country’s answer to "Dancing with the Stars:" celebs from all over the entertainment spectrum compete to see who’s the best at nailing the unique country music sound.

Sheila, who’s most famous for collaborating with Prince, was up against the funkmaster George Clinton, former beauty queen Tara Conners, "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini and others.

Creating music was nothing new to Miss E., but crafting songs with a country twang and a Dolly Parton-esque swag? That’s challenging. However, she managed to wow the judges with her commitment to the genre.

"Sheila E. is perhaps one of the most talented musicians on our planet. What really took me over the top with her was witnessing the sheer passion she displayed for country music and our audience," said John Rich, the show’s host. "As they say in sports, she left it all on the field when it came to her commitment to Gone Country 3."

The winning song was a gospel-infused, inspirational diddy called "Glorious Train."

So does this mean that Sheila’s hung up her pop/soul hat? We sure hope not. The 51-year old diva has contributed to some of our favorite jams, including Beyoncé’s "Work It Out."
