En Vogue reunites for 20th anniversary

En Vogue is about to give the world something they can feel—again!

All four of the original funky divas (Cindy Herron-Briggs, Maxine Jones, Terri and Dawn Robinson) graced the March 16 issue of JET magazine for the group’s 20th anniversary.

To kick off their come back, En Vogue will be playing at different locations before they go on a world tour early next year.  This summer you can catch them at the Essence Music Festival.  They’re also getting ready to record an album.

“It’s like we haven’t missed a beat,” Dawn told JET.  “It’s our time again. It’s not about pushing anyone out of the way. It’s time to come back and finish what we started. We’re going to take the world by storm again.”

The girls had to give it up and turn it loose when Dawn left the group; the shocking split came at the group’s peak back in 1997.  “It was a sad moment to see our girl leave the group,” Terri said.  “However, from a business standpoint, we knew that it was important for us to keep going because of what we created.”

For a while, Cindy, Maxine and Terri continued on as a trio with albums EV3 and Masterpiece Theatre.  Their song ”Whatever” still pops up in our playlist, and their video had a little beauty shop of horrors vibe to it (kind of gave us the creeps).

Dawn wasn’t the only one to leave the group though.  Cindy and Maxine each dipped out for a minute (not at the same time), but the group’s management hired some stand-ins.  In fact, Terri is the only member that never stopped performing as part of En Vogue over the years.

Fans got a taste of what’s to come at last year’s BET Awards when En Vogue joined Alicia Keys, SWV and the remaining members of TLC all got up on stage for a monumental performance.   “When we did BET, we talked about being united on a permanent basis,” Cindy recalled.   “It seemed like the right thing to do because of the anniversary.”
