Darius Rucker is #1 on the country music charts with his single “It Won’t Be Like This For Long.”
It’s the second #1 single off of his album, Learn to Live. His first single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” was first on the Top Country Single chart for two weeks back in October. It was the first single by a Black country artist to reach #1 since Charlie Pride put out “Night Games” 25 years ago, Billboard.com reports.
"The acceptance has been really great, much more than I ever expected," Darius told Billboard.
Darius, formerly of Hootie and the Blowfish, definitely knows his way around a honky-tonk tune. He’s been on records for Nanci Griffith and Radney Foster; he’s also written songs with some artists in Nashville, the country music capital of the world.
"It wasn’t that I was part of the scene, but I knew a lot of people that were,” said Hootie. So I think when (Learn to Live) came out, it wasn’t like, ‘What’s this guy doing making a country record?!’ I already had some credibility there, and I really love the music."
Darius told Billboard that he plans to release a third single from Learn to Live soon. Oh yeah, the album also debuted at #1; we’re sure other country acts must be getting sick of seeing him in the top spot so often.
