Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph founded the Diva Foundation in 1990. For the past 11 years, she’s helped organize the Divas Simply Singing event, raising money for HIV/AIDS awareness and bringing together a variety of talented singers for the annual star-studded event.
“What started it for me was on Broadway doing Dreamgirls. That’s what I called the ugly time … a time when men just started dropping dead, and they were dying of a mysterious disease, and no one wanted to talk about it, “Sheryl said, explaining her motivation for starting the organization.
