New image shows Cleopatra was Black

Cleopatra didn’t look like Elizabeth Taylor, and one Egyptologist says she has proof!

People have been arguing about what Cleopatra really looked like for centuries. Now, Dr. Sally Ann Ashton of Cambridge University believes that a computer-generated 3D image captures the best likeness of the Egyptian queen, Dailymail.co.uk reports.

The image, compiled from artifacts that existed during Cleopatra’s reign, shows that she is a brown-skinned woman of mixed ethnicity. Not exactly a match for Sophia Loren either (she also portrayed the legendary beauty).

“She probably wasn’t just completely European,” Dr. Sally said of Cleopatra. “You’ve got to remember that her family had actually lived in Egypt for 300 years by the time she came to power.”

The computer image of Cleopatra will be broadcast as part of a documentary about the her life. Hold off on setting your DVRs, though; there is no word on when or where it will air.
