Australia offers ‘best job in the world’

You’ll want to turn in your resignation after reading about this job and its perks!

The Queensland State Government announced Tuesday that it’s looking for an Island Caretaker, the Associated Foreign Press reports.

The job pays $105,000 (US), and compensation includes free airfare to Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef. The successful candidate will also get to stay in a three-bedroom beach home for free!

"Island Caretaker" may sound like a big job, but all the lucky winner — err, applicant  — is expected to do is enjoy the white sandy beaches, snorkel and perform a few small tasks. Job duties also include turning those experiences into weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

Some may think the job sounds too good to be true, but it’s part of a drive to protect Australia’s tourism industry during these tough economic times.

The job is open to anyone with six months to kill, but applicants should be able to speak and write in English.  It wouldn’t hurt if they are also good swimmers.

"They’ll also have to talk to media from time to time about what they’re doing, so they can’t be too shy, and they’ll have to love the sea, the sun, the outdoors," acting Queensland Premier Paul Lucas told the AFP.

Interested job hunters can apply until February 22 at Islandreefjob.com

Eleven candidates will be flown to Hamilton Island in May for a final round of interviews, and the "job" starts on July 1.
