Legendary soul singer Isaac Hayes died in Memphis, Tennessee, Sunday afternoon. Family members found the 65-year-old Grammy winner unconscious next to a treadmill in his home. Paramedics tried to revive Isaac, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The sad news of Isaac’s death comes one day after comedian Bernie Mac, 50, died of pneumonia in Chicago. The two had recently worked together on the film Soul Men. The movie stars Bernie and Samuel L. Jackson as estranged soul singers who agree to reunite for a performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased bandleader. Isaac appeared as himself in the film that is scheduled to be released November 14.
Isaac was best known for his baritone voice. His hit “Theme From Shaft” earned him an Oscar and a Grammy in 1971.
