Fashion and film collided in a new short film for Miu Miu and Gabrielle Union was the center of it all!
It’s funny how the right outfit can make you feel like a new woman.
Miu Miu tapped director Ava DuVernay to tell a story through fashion as part of it’s short film project The Door. Gabrielle, Adepero Oduye and Alfre Woodard hand in amazing performances without saying a word in the 9-minute short.
The Door opens with Gabrielle being very distant and depressed as she tries to get over a devastating breakup. Determined to stay in her lonely world while she gets it together, her friends and loved ones do their best to set her free from the pain.
“In the film, characters arrive at the door of a friend in need, bringing something of themselves,” explains director DuVernay. “Eventually, we witness our heroine ready to walk through the door on her own. The door in the film represents a pathway to who we are.”
The clothing, which is expertly picked out by her friends, plays a major part in Gabrielle’s transformation as it is a symbol of renewal. With each costume change, Gabrielle’s character is pulled from her sadness about the end of her marriage, gaining a little more courage to emerge into the next chapter of her life.
