Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan and Blair Underwood are about to give Shakespeare’s Macbeth some island flavor.
Indiewire.com reports that the actors will star in a Caribbean remake of The Scottish play titled Macbett.
Terrence will star in the film as General Macbett, who encounters the “Weird Sisters” after winning his most recent battle. The sisters are spirit daughters of Africa that can control fire, water, earth and sky. When they’re not controlling the elements, the trio is playing with Macbett’s mind by encouraging royal aspirations and predicting that he will one day become a king.
As in the original, becoming king is soon all that he and Lady Macbett (played by Sanaa) can think about. In his campaign to claim the throne, Macbett and his wife engage in acts 0f political treachery and orchestrate assassinations.
But the betrayals are not without consequence as the pair are haunted by their misdeeds and eventually driven mad. Ultimately, Macbett’s ambitions prove to be his downfall, providing a tragic for the once beloved hero.
Shooting for Macbett, which also stars Evan Ross, is set to begin in Jamaica and Puerto Rico this September.
