Would you pay to see a “Girlfriends” movie? Mara Brock Akil might be able to make it happen with your help!
This week “Veronica Mars” fans clamored to donate to a Kickstarter campaign that would fund a big screen production of the old CW detective drama. To date, the campaign has garnered more than $3.1 million dollars in less than a week
With “Girlfriends” unceremoniously getting dropped from The CW, many fans of the show have longed for the story of Joan Clayton and her girls to be revived! While the show was never picked up by another network, Mara Brock Akil thinks she might be able to work on a movie.
Despite her production company’s deal with BET, the money for a “Girlfriends” movie woud have to come from a different source. That could be why she posed a very exciting question online this morning, tweeting, “Do #GirlfriendsFans want to start a KickStarter Fund for a movie? If so hit me back at @MaraBrockAkil & “like” @AKILPRODUCTIONS FB pg”
As of this posting there were about 100 retweets of Mara’s proposal, and she hasn’t taken it down yet. If you’d be willing to chip in, let Mara know and hit up the Akil Productions Facebook page!
