Mathew Knowles is clearing up a couple of misconceptions about the professional split from his fabulously famous daughter Beyoncé.
The Music World label head supposedly got pretty candid in a recent chat with The Sun as he revealed his feelings about Bey taking control of her own destiny as she left his management. It was an unusual move considering that Mathew tends to keep his personal matters rather private.
“I’ve never revealed this much in an interview before,” he said. “Normally I hate to talk about anything personal, but it would be a lie if I did not say it has been difficult.”
After years of shaping Beyoncé’s career it was hard for him to relinquish that power to her. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the dismissal, Mathew insists that he wasn’t unceremoniously fired and that it was a mutual decision.
“It was hard for me to let her go — it was hard for both of us to let each other go,” Mathew stated. “And let’s be clear on that. She didn’t let me go, we both let each other go. That’s a big difference.”
What made it particularly tough for Mathew was the fact that he and Bey were still family after he stopped being her manager.
“This was not a normal ending of a business agreement,” said Mathew. “This was a dad and a daughter and it was incredibly painful and it had some difficulties. But I try to always have a positive mind about things and you got to do it the right way.”
