Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake rock White House
Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake helped the Obamas rock some Memphis Soul at the White House this week!
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama celebrated the music that created a little racial harmony in 1960s Memphis during the Civil Rights era.
“Memphis, Tennessee, was segregated in the 1960s,” President Obama said during opening remarks, “but blacks and whites came together despite the institutional racism to create a soulful blend of gospel and rhythmic blues music that sought to ‘bridge those divides, to create a little harmony with harmony.”
Queen Latifah hit the stage to put her own spin on some classics, and Tennessee’s own soulful son Justin blessed the crowd in the East Room with some music as well.
Catch all the festivities when PBS airs the event on April 16.
