‘The New Normal,’ ‘Smash’ canceled
NBC has chucked two more hot shows from its roster after canceling “Deception.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has opted not to renew NeNe Leakes’ sitcom “The New Normal” for a second season due to poor ratings.
Although it garnered decent ratings when aired after “The Voice,” numbers for “The New Normal” took a hit when it was moved to a different time slot. Deadline.com reports that “Smash” suffered a similarly sharp decline without having “The Voice” as a lead-in when it returned mid-season.
Jennifer Hudson had just joined the cult hit in season 2, which also saw a switch in show runners. After moving the show to Saturday night, “Smash” is one of the latest cancelations to be announced by NBC.
