Fantasia connects suicide attempt to diva journey
Fantasia drew inspiration from some of her fellow divas to get her through her darkest hour. Back in 2010, the “Get It Right” singer tried to committ suicide after aborting what would have been her first child with then-boyfried Antwaun Cook, who was married to another woman when they met.
In a recent interview, she recalled that the hardship gave her something in common with the divas that she grew up listening to.
“When I went into the hospital, I looked up artists who’ve been through things,” Fantasia told. TheDrop.fm. “I researched other singers who have faced struggles, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, they all have stories to tell. I took my cues from them, and I just put my mind and everything into music.”
