Although she had a pretty messy exit from “Love & Hip Hop” Somaya Reece has given up on reality TV just yet.
The former VH1 reality star revealed to DrJays.com that she’s getting her own show on Nuvo TV. The series will follow Somaya as she tries to provide for her family and manage her own career, including her new fitness brand. There’s no word on what the show will be named, fans should expect to see it debut in Spring 2014.
Reality TV lovers came to know Somaya through her two-season stint on “Love & Hip Hop.” However, fans of the show noticed that she got a lot less screen time on season 2. Originally, she accused creator Mona Scott-Young of cutting her screen time because she wasn’t being dramatic or violent enough to capture big ratings.
When season 3 debuted in January, Somaya and most of the original cast were gone and the show was essentially rebooted. It’s assumed that her falling out with Mona was responsible for her getting cut from “Love & Hip Hop,” but Somaya said it was her decision to leave.
“We did discuss season 3, but it’s just not for m,” Somaya stated. “It’s not for me, it’s not for [Chrissy Lampk], it’s not for Emily, it’s not for Kimbella, it’s not for none of us that left the show.”
She continued, “Everyone left for the same reason, and sometimes it’s better to do that, than to continue to work on something you’re not passionate about anymore.”
According to Somaya, “Love & Hip Hop” with all of its fights and blowouts no longer fit her brand, so she decided to walk because she didn’t see the show taking a new direction any time soon.
“From what I did see, that’s what Mona wants, you know, to push that type of television,” said Somaya. “She knows what she’s doing, and so does the production company, and I can’t say that I would watch it. It’s not my thing, but it doesn’t mean I would bash anybody for it, you know.”
That assessment aside, Somaya’s got no beef with Mona these days, saying, “I think it’s something juicier to say we have drama, but we don’t.”
