Shaunie_ONeal Shaunie O’Neal has often been criticized for instigating drama on her series, “Basketball Wives,” while sitting back and opting not get involved, but she said season 5 might be a little different.

“I think the older I get, I gotta just say what I mean when I want to say it, not wait. I had a bad habit of not calling people on things right then and there,” said Shaunie who told Sister 2 Sister that she’s not holding back anymore.

“I might have to step up and be a little more in the moment than I have been,” she said. “I don’t think you guys really get my full personality on ‘Basketball Wives’ right now.”

In the past, Shaunie admitted to waiting until the cameras were gone before addressing her friends’ questionable behavior, but she said she won’t be as apprehensive about that in season 5.

“If you ask any of the ladies on the show, I definitely tell them, ‘Girl, you were trippin’…,’ but pulling your friends’ coattails one on one when there’s no cameras and no people around is one thing. Pulling your friends’ coattails in front of millions of people, in front of cast mates and crew, those are two totally different things that can be taken in two totally different ways,” explained Shaunie who was concerned about making bad situations worse.

“You call somebody out, usually they’re already mad at one person. Now you call them out. Now they’re mad at you. Now, it’s a big old’ mess,” she reasoned.

Though she wouldn’t necessarily describe it as a change from her past behavior, Shaunie said fans will get to see a side of her that she only revealed to friends off-camera.

“It wasn’t really coming out of my comfort zone for me. The rest of my cast members and our crew and all that were really surprised,” she said.

Although she’s willing to share more of her thoughts with viewers, Shaunie said she’s not going to risk her friendships for on-air drama.

“I’m still not going to put my friends [on blast]… At the end of the day when that camera shuts off, we’re still friends, and I don’t want to embarrass you any more than what has just happened. I’m not about a moment on TV. I take my relationships and my friendships way past television. I genuinely love these ladies,” she said.
