Mary J. Blige has confirmed that she is set to star in a biopic about the iconic jazz singer Nina Simone.
Mary told USmagazine.com that she’s working hard to prepare for the role. "I’m definitely still doing it, and I’m in acting classes for it now," she said. "We start shooting at the end of the month!"
The script for Nina, the movie’s working title, was written by Cynthia Mort and it will be based on Nina’s autobiography I Put A Spell on You. The film will center on Nina’s relationship with assistant Clifton Henderson.
According to BV Buzz, Clifton will be played by David Oyelowo, who is currently working on the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, Selma.
Mary’s also having a blast prepping for a role in the comedy Rock of Ages, where she’ll star alongside Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin.
"I’m playing Justice Charlier, a gentleman’s club owner," MJB told UsMagazine.com. "I’m having so much fun preparing for it, and I know Tom. I love Tom. He just really wants the best for everybody."
