For the "godfather of gospel," nothing short of the absolute best in church music would do to send him home. So, for his four-hour homegoing service, music filled the room, reports the New York Daily News.
Mourners sang his songs, including the 2007 hit "Jesus Jesus Jesus," and speakers, including Rev. Al Sharpton and two of his sons, made remarks at Pilgrim Baptist Church in New York.
The service was jam-packed with the 3,000-plus crowd of people that came to pay their respects to the legendary Grammy-nominated singer.
Timothy died Thursday, April 30 from injuries sustained during a head-on car accident last year. That same accident took the life of his wife, Betty, and their eldest grandson, 14-year old D.J. almost a year ago.
