Just in time for Father’s Day, Kelly Rowland’s father is reaching out to the singer for reconciliation.
Kelly’s father, Christopher Lovett, told the Sunday Mirror that he wants to patch things up with his daughter, whose life he hasn’t really been a big part of until now. "Kelly, I love you with all my heart," he pleaded. "Please forgive me and let me be your dad again."
There have been reports that Kelly remembers her father as an aggressive drunk before he left her mother when the singer was only 7 years old. Christopher, now 65, said he began drinking heavily when he lost his job and could no longer take care of his family.
"The failure to provide for my family fueled an anger that I will be ashamed of until my dying day," Chris admitted. "No parent should scream and shout in front of their child, and I am sorry to say there were too many times to mention that Kelly heard me screaming abuse at her mother."
Though he swears the fights never got physical, the singer’s father said that Kelly would often cling to his pant leg and beg him to stop shouting at her mother. Other times, he said, the little girl would just run screaming to her room.
"I really hoped I would get to make it up to her. Sadly, I am still waiting for that day. But I can’t give up hope," Christopher said, revealing that he currently has a room in his home decorated especially for his estranged daughter should she ever want to come by for a visit.
