After less than pleasing early ratings, Oprah Winfrey has decided to shake-up things at OWN.
The new CEO of the Oprah Winfrey Network will by no other than the queen of daytime television herself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah will not only serve as CEO but is also set to add Chief Creative Officer to her title. The network, which is a joint venture with Discovery Communications, said it was Oprah’s desire to take full creative and operational control.
“I am ready to dedicate my full creative energy and focus as the full time CEO of OWN," Oprah said in a statement. "By aligning the mission, talent and leadership of Erik, Sheri, the OWN team, the Harpo team, along with expertise of [Discovery Communications CEO] David Zaslav, Peter and all of Discovery behind us, we can unleash the full potential of the network."
Erik Logan and Sheri Salata, the current presidents of Harpo Studios will also change positions. They will serve as the presidents of OWN and focus all new TV production for the cable channel.
Beyond that, Peter Liguori, COO of Discovery Communications, was named OWN’s interim CEO after original CEO, Christina Norman, was let go shortly after the network’s January launch.
“The announcement of Oprah, Erik and Sheri completes the plan for developing a strategic creative track and finding the right management team to execute on that plan going forward,” said Peter. “I look forward to a robust new season with Lisa Ling, Rosie [O'Donnell] and a number of projects that will continue building OWN’s audience, brand strength and growth."
Although the Oprah Winfrey Network has suffered from less-than-stellar ratings, it is clear that O and her powerhouse staff are determined to try new spices until they find the recipe that works.
