Following a scandal-plagued administration, Turks and Caicos Prime Minister Michael Misick has put in his notice.

Michael announced Friday that he will be resigning from office on March 31 and that he will not be seeking reelection, the Associated Press reports.  He said the decision, which came just hours after his deputy prime minister resigned, was based on the lack of support for his administration. 

"What the country and our party needs now more than ever is stability and certainty," Michael said during a press conference. "I have tried in recent weeks to create this. It now appears to me that the divide within the party is too deep."

Michael, 43, has been at the center of a British corruption investigation.  According to the AP, officials are looking into claims that he and others made money off the sale of government-owned land.

The prime minister said that his high-profile lifestyle helped him to reel in resort developers, improving the Turks and Caicos’ economy.  The gross domestic product has more than doubled $750 million since Michael took office in 2003.

Michael, who is in the middle of a very public divorce battle with actress LisaRaye McCoy, said he will also step down as the leader of the Progressive National Party on February 28.
