EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP
The Editorial Internship at Sister 2 Sister magazine is available to college students whose course of study allows college credit for working in a journalism environment. The student must implement arrangements for credit, including reports to instructors.
To Apply: Email a resume, cover letter and 3 writing samples (at least one must be published) to internships@s2smail.com, with “Interested in Editorial Internship” as the subject line. Also include in the subject line which semester you are applying for (for example, “Summer,” “Fall,” etc.) Writing samples may be provided as links to online published material or as screen shots. Incomplete application packets will not be accepted for consideration.
Due: August 30, 2012 (Fall)/November 9, 2012 (Spring)/April 30, 2012 (Summer)
Expectations: Assisting editors with duties such as reviewing transcripts and video footage, fact checking, researching, transcribing and reporting. Interns will learn valuable lessons about how a publication is put together, including research, writing, learning how to meet prompt deadlines and how to deliver multimedia content.
Duties:
– Researching and fact-checking for stories
– Review letters to the editor and transcribe letters that will be printed.
– Review transcribed interviews, some transcription as needed.
– Research publications and other resources for possible leads on exciting or
interesting people to feature in Sister 2 Sister’s biographical columns.
– Research to find fresh and exciting entertainment news.
– Answer telephones, take messages, and distribute messages.
– Assist editorial staff as needed.
Hours: Interns are expected to work for one full college semester, or for at least eight weeks during summer. Renewal for an additional time period may be approved. Sister 2 Sister requires a minimum of four hours of work per attendance day. We recommend 16 hours per attendance week. Interns must give Sister 2 Sister editors at least one week’s notice of upcoming exams.
Required skills: (1) Computer literacy including mastery of word processing software and ability to access and use the Internet. (2) Excellent grammar, spelling and speaking ability. (3) Evidence of ability to learn excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal relationship skills. (4) Skills in graphics software and Final Cut Pro are a plus.

Expectations: Interns will have a number of tasks, but are generally expected to assist in the production of content for s2smagazine.com. Interns will learn valuable lessons about how an online publication is run, including story construction, research, writing, how to meet tight deadlines and how to lay out multimedia content.
Duties:
– Writing stories for the website as needed
- Reviewing the website to gain a familiarity with our tone and style
– Finding multimedia elements (audio, video or graphics) as needed
- Researching and fact-checking for stories
- Promoting stories through social media
- Review transcribed interviews, some transcription as needed.
- Research publications and other resources for possible leads on exciting or interesting subjects.
- Editing video and audio for online broadcast
- Answer telephones, take messages, and distribute messages.
- Assist editorial staff as needed.

Sister 2 Sister requires interns to work at least four hours per scheduled attendance day, and we recommend that our students put in 16 hours per week. Interns must give Sister 2 Sister editors at least one week’s notice of upcoming exams.

7) Ability to work under tight or conflicting deadlines.
