CNN.com reports that the Atlanta area has been pounded by eight days of torrential rains, submerging major roadways and whole neighborhoods. Sadly there’s news that the state hasn’t seen the last of the wet weather.
 
"We're in rescue-and-recovery mode," a rep for Douglas County ‘s emergency management service sad Monday. "It has not stopped raining, and another line of thunderstorms is coming." 
 
Authorities originally said the rain was expected to start drying up today, but the Atlanta forecast on Weather.com shows that storms and showers could last through Sunday.
 
According to CNN the rains aren’t connected to a tropical storm or a hurricane, rather the storm has been held in place by high-pressure system that’s just been stalling over the area. Normally the low-pressure system would have passed over Georgia before continuing on to other areas.
 
Making matters worse is the fact that Atlanta had just suffered through a drought earlier this year, forcing the city and surrounding areas to enforce water restrictions.
 
The soil was completely saturated by Monday; this meant any additional water could only go into other bodies of water, like the Chattahoochee River, or it funnels into drainage systems, causing flood waters to rise even faster.
