Man indicted in Cracker Barrel attack
Fri, 09/25/2009 - 14:10 — Anonymous
A man accused of physically attacking a Black woman in front of her child outside of a Georgia Cracker Barrel has been indicted.
CBS Atlanta reports that Troy Dale West was taken into custody Wednesday after he was charged with felony counts of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and first degree cruelty to children. A grand jury also found him guilty of two counts each on battery and disorderly conduct.
The charges are the result of a September 9 incident at a Cracker Barrel in Morrow, Georgia. The victim, Army reservist Tasha Hill, said the scuffle began as she and her 7-year-old daughter were leaving the restaurant when Troy quickly swung the door open on his way in, almost hitting the little girl.
"[I said] 'Excuse me sir watch out you almost hit my daughter in the face.' He just came lighting fast came back at me with, 'You need to watch your f-n daughter,'" Tasha recounted. Police and witness say that Troy then began to verbally abuse the woman while punching and kicking, and all of this went on in front of Tasha’s daughter.
"He continued to punch and kick on me and called me vulgar names, called me a racial slur and then curse words," Tasha added.
At first Troy was charged with cruelty to children, disorderly conduct and battery, but the accused attacker was able to make bail after police arrested him.
Hate crime charges have not been mentioned in the case as the state of Georgia has no such laws on the books.
