Women to get a spot on the National Mall
Thu, 10/15/2009 - 15:24 — whitney
Women may soon get a spot on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., which is home to the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington monument.
According to the Associated Press, the House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday that would allow a women's history museum.
The property would be located at 12th Street and Independence Avenue, near Smithsonian museums like the Natural History Museum.
The legislation is being sponsored by New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and Eleanor Holmes Norton, the congressional delegate from the District of Columbia.
Joan Bradley Wages is leading the museum project outside of Congress. She told the AP that this will be the first time that women will get a "front row seat" on the National Mall.
Norton agreed and said women have waited too long to be represented in the nation's capital.
