Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has been dropped by a group hoping to buy the St. Louis Rams.
 
Dave Checkettes, who leads the group, issued a release stating that Rush’s very public participation had become a liability in their campaign. At least 24 of the other 32 NFL owners would have O.K. any sale to the group, but there was speculation that their bid for the team would have been met with resistance if Rush remained onboard.
 
Beyond that, a few NFL players were speaking out about Rush’s potential ownership of the Rams.  ESPN.com reports that DeMaurice Smith, head of the NFL Players Association, lead that charge by asking other ballers to express their opposition.
 
"It has become clear that [Rush’s] involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis," Dave explained in his statement. "As such, we have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion."
 
Even though it was his fellow investors who bum-rushed him out of the picture, Rush is placing the blame for his rejection on politics. More specifically, he was blaming the left wing.
 
"This is not about the NFL, it's not about the St. Louis Rams, it's not about me," he said on his radio show earlier this week. "This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.”
 
And it’s statements like that that prompted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to back Rush’s rejection, saying, “Divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about."
 
"I've said many times before, we're all held to a high standard here,” Roger continued. “I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL -- absolutely not."
 
Now, Rush’s former partners are on the hunt for another prospective investor who doesn’t inspire so much public ire.
