P. Miller pledges help to New Orleans
Mon, 10/19/2009 - 02:17 — Anonymous
P. Miller, aka Master P, is teaming with HUD to rebuild homes in New Orleans.
The rapper-turned-entrepreneur broke ground to maekover the mixed-income B.W. Cooper Housing Projects, which are his old stomping grounds. When Hurricane Katrina swept through the area years ago, it was destroyed.
Now, P hopes that working on this project will inspire other artists to refurbish the communities they came from as well.
"I want to be able to show these guys look at me. I changed my image, I changed my life and I had to grow up,” he said in a statement. “I’m honored to be a part of the ground breaking alongside President Obama’s right hand man Secretary Shaun Donovan who shares the same goal as me, which is to help B.W. Cooper residents get back into their new homes.”
But as part of the makeover, the Projects will be renamed the Marrero Commons in honor of Yvonne Marrero, a prominent community activist who died after Katrina.
As of press time, the Commons should be open to prospective residents by the end of next year.

It makes me proud to see a successful rapper out there doing something good like this. I am glad that more of them are trying to help others. It is refreshing from all the negativity that comes from their perfession.
