Tyler Perry responds to critics
Mon, 10/26/2009 - 10:54 — Anonymous
Spike Lee has made it clear that he hasn’t got a high opinion of characters like Madea and Brown, and Tyler Perry has something to say about that.
During a recent interview with “60 Minutes” a reporter revealed that Spike had likened the perennial implants to Amos and Andy, calling it “coonery and buffoonery.”
“All these characters are are bait,” Tyler said in defense of his most famous characters. He went on to explain that Madea and Brown might be what draws people in, but that he also presents important life lessons through them. “I can slap Madea in something and talk about God, love, faith, forgiveness, family—any of those things.”
But Spike’s criticism seems to have struck a personal nerve with Tyler who said that the comparison “pisses me off.”
“It’s so insulting,” the media mogul said. “It’s attitudes like that that make Hollywood think that these people do not exist and that’s why there’s no material speaking to them.”

Tyler Perry
I agree with Tyler. I watch anything that this man has his hands in. I also love for my children to watch his plays and movies. They watch more of them than I do. As for Spike, he needs to get somewhere and rent some of Tyler's movies/plays and think about the statement that he made, and maybe realize how stupid it was.
