Steph Jones fans have been wanting to hear from the singer-model for a while, and his new mixtape Gravity is well worth the wait.
 
When we recently chopped it up with the Steph he said working on the album was like “raising a baby.” From the tapping out the initial beats to singing the final notes, Gravity is entirely Steph.

 
“I like to make songs according to how the music feels,” Steph told us. “I like to sit down with the producer, maybe play something on the guitar or piano and let his genius take over. It’s like starting from scratch and I like to start from scratch a lot.”
 
After a quick listen to Gavity, it’s clear that Steph birthed a solid lifetape filled with music that varies in style, but still manages to complement all the other tracks. Our favorites are a “Up Up and Away,” “Get Me Started,” and “Shooting Star.” But the tape’s first single “You’re So Delicious” isn’t bad either.
 
Gravity is a really polished, cohesive project that Steph is gifting to fans, who can download it here for free. “I’m about to give them some music they can live with, and they can have it. This is on me,” he explained, adding that his listeners have stuck by him even though he hasn’t released anything in years. “This is me showing for my appreciation.”

We thought that Gravity sounded more like an official album than a “lifetape,” as Steph calls it. And that was just the impression he was going for. Because he didn’t have a means of dropping an official LP, he decided to present the lifetape.
 
“I wasn’t going to put out just mixtape material. I have enough confidence in my ability to be able to create and make really cool records. I’m not going to half-a** it,” Steph said. “I don’t mind working for a fan. I don’t want it easy and it didn’t come easy. I put a lot of heart and soul into those records—and thought!”
 
For Steph the lifetape is literally the fulfillment of a dream. Seriously, he had a dream that he was on a mission to save music by routing it through his heart and soul. “They’re all honest records that come from my soul and your soul never lies,” said Steph.
 
From that nocturnal vision came the theme for Gravity, and we think he can definitely classify this as a mission accomplished.
