Jen stays strong with family
Thu, 11/05/2009 - 12:26 — Sonya E
Jennifer Hudson is talking about how she stayed strong this year and why she wants to raise her new son in Chicago.
Jen has showed amazing resilience in the months following the murder or her mother, brother and nephew. But according to her, it just comes naturally thanks to her relationship with the God and being raised in a family of strong women.
“I have no choice but to be strong,” Jen said during her sit-down with Shaun Robinson on “Access Hollywood.” The singer said she finds that she’s more like her mom than she first thought, and she still feels her presence. But Jen added that keeping a solid relationship with her sister, Julia, has also been key to coping with thire tragic losses.
“We’re family. All we have is each other,” Jen said of Julia, who was moved to tears at her sister’s words.
Jen and her fiancé, David “Punk” Otunga, recently added to the family with the birth of their son, David Otunga Jr. And the singer just can’t stop beaming about her new role as a mom.
"It, of course, is the most amazing thing ever. But it's hard to put into words because it's something you have to experience to understand,” said Jen. “I love every minute of it."
And she wants to raise the baby boy in her hometown of Chicago because she wants David Jr. to be surrounded by his family. “That's where the biggest support system is and if we live somewhere else, then we will have to bring the family wherever we are,” reasoned Jen.
When asked if she wanted to have any more babies, Jen said, "Maybe one more. I'd like to have at least one more, a little girl. I want a girl and then maybe another one. You know, one baby at a time."
