Dear Mama, 'Brunch is on me'
Fri, 05/08/2009 - 14:58 — whitney
This woman cooked and cleaned for you, gave you money and chauffeured you around. This Sunday she'll demand her annual free meal. Here's where you should take her:
If you're in the L.A. area, hit up Aunt Kizzy's Backporch for authentic Southern and soul food cuisine. They open at 11 a.m. for brunch, so an early morning church service might be in order. Their menu lets you get a little bit of this and a little bit of that from both the entree and breakfast menus.
For a Miami brunch, try the eclectic 660 Mediterranean Restaurant. Their brunch runs all day (from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and features everything from banana pecan pancakes to burgers to chicken paillard.
ATLiens, look no further than Soul City this Sunday. Their brunch menu is loaded with Southern goodies like pork sandwiches, fried tomatoes and fried trout. For dessert, you and mama have to try that pecan pie.
Lula Cafe is a cute spot in the Windy City. It's got all of your traditional brunch favorites, prepared with lots of style. And those drinks (Lula sangria, mimosas and Black Sambal Bloody Mary) don't sound half bad either.
Baltimore citizens, treat your mom to a seafood brunch at Phillips Seafood. They've got those Maryland crab cakes you love, plus salads, pasta and oysters.
Moms and daughters in Detroit can head to Fishbone's for tasty seafood (salmon, shrimp, catfish beignets), cajun (jambalaya, red beans and rice) and classic breakfast fare (omelettes and waffles).
Kitchenette is perfect for a Big Apple day of bonding with Mom Dukes. It's a small, quaint place offering all of your Brunch favorites including lumberjack pancakes, succulent omelettes and lots of yummy desserts.
