Cheerios are drugs, said FDA

    Fri, 05/15/2009 - 11:15 — whitney

Reaching for a bowl of Cheerios in the morning is the equivalent of popping a cholesterol pill, said the Food and Drug Administration recently. The claims that the cereal boasts on its box (that it will lower cholesterol by up to 4 percent in six weeks) is extreme enough to warrant a change in FDA supervision, from food to drug, according to YumSugar.

"Based on claims made on your product's label, we have determined that your Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal is promoted for conditions that cause it to be a drug because the product is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease." wrote the FDA.

General Mills, the company that manufactures the little O's, had this to say: "Cheerios' soluble fiber heart health claim has been FDA-approved for 12 years...the science is not in question."

For now, we'll keep chomping on this favorite breakfast choice, and hope we won't need a prescription before we eat a bowl in the future.

Thats just to funny i guess

Thats just to funny i guess that drug treatment center Utah has will have to start taking Cheerios out of their breakfast. The FDA really needs to get a grip. If orange juice can help a diabetic to bring his blood sugar up isn't that a drug then according to the FDA's definition?

Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. Because success is heavy, carries a responsibility with it.
