‘Dancing With The Stars’ recap: season 8 finale
Shawn Johnson vaulted ahead of the competition to snag the win on this season of “Dancing With The Stars.”
She faced off against actor Gilles Marini and bachelorette Melissa Rycroft for the mirrorball trophy. At the beginning of the season few would have thought that she would make it his far on “Dancing With The Stars,” let alone win.
But Shawn got to show everyone why she earned her spot in the finals when the top three couples performed their best dances from the season. Admittedly, we liked her performance the best.
Shawn and her partner, Mark Ballas, did a snappy Cha Cha to Michael Jackson’s “PYT,” and they worked it out! What’s not to love? The first time they did this routine they got a 28, but after Tuesday’s dance that score was upgraded to a perfect 30.
Gilles and Melissa Rycroft got 30s for their routines (the Argentine Tango and the Samba, respectively) as well.
But, the eliminated couples weren’t left out. All of them came back to perform the best (or, in some cases, last) dances from their season.
It was good to see David Alan Grier and his partner, Kym Johnson, do the Viennese Waltz again. We could tell that he’d returned to the show with a mission to wow the crowd, and he definitely delivered as they glided beautifully across the floor.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Taylor brought his groove back (again) with the Jive. Hands down, this was our favorite performance from him and Edyta Sliwinska.
Next, Lil’ Kim and Derek Hough came back to do their jaw-dropping Jive to “Jailhouse Rock” (we'll let you fill in your comments here) one last time, and it was every bit as entertaining as we remember.
After Derek tried sneaking off with the trophy, they whirled around the floor like a pair of tops. They kept the energy up the whole time and showed everyone just what the competition had lost when Kim was cut two weeks ago.
“I kinda [sic] thought you’d be here tonight, and not just reprising,” host Tom Bergeron told Kim after the performance.
“Everywhere I go, it’s been nothing but love,” Kim said of her experience since leaving the show. “For me to me to get this far, I feel like I’ve already won.”

I love the gracefulness of it all,
the couples work so hard to get

work and a lot energy.
