4. Beverly Johnson
She was the first Black model to grace the cover of American Vogue (August 1974). Within a year, Beverly Johnson became the first Black woman on the French edition of Elle and German Cosmopolitan.
The model went on to grace more than 500 magazine covers, changing the face of fashion. The New York Times named her one of the 20th century’s most influential people in fashion. She is also known for her beauty book, numerous television appearances and her successful wig and hair products line, the Beverly Johnson Hair Collection.
