Jamie Foxx sat down with Jay Leno to discuss his role in Django Unchained and how he felt portraying a slave in a movie laced with the N-word.
During the show he told Leno, “It was tough for me to act like I can’t read, or be subservient to someone or to hear the N-word over and over again which is what I asked for because that’s the way they labeled them at that time.”
Jamie also told the host that he wasn’t the only one having trouble adjusting to the word on set. Leonardo DiCaprio found it a challenge to speak to Jamie in that manner.
“It was even tougher to see Leonardo come in and he had to say these words to me,” FJamie explained. He continued by telling Leno that Samuel L. Jackson was the one to break the ice on set. “He leans over to Leo and says, ‘Hey, MF. This is just another Tuesday for us. Get over it,’” Foxx tells.
