7. President Obama named Person of the Year
Time magazine has pegged President Barack Obama as its Person of the Year for 2012.
After an extended election season, handling the challenges of the economy and a deeply divided congress, several national tragedies and his historic re-election (just to name a few things), Time felt there was no one more deserving of the honor.
“It was easy to think that maybe 2008 was the anomaly,” the president told Time, “And I think 2012 was an indication that, no, this is not an anomaly. "
He acknowledged that getting a second term in office was no easy feat, either. "We’ve gone through a very difficult time. The American people have rightly been frustrated at the pace of change, and the economy is still struggling, and this President we elected is imperfect. And yet despite all that, this is who we want to be," he said with a smile. “That’s a good thing.”
