10. Mariah Carey shades Nicki Minaj on ‘Nightline’
Mariah Carey threw a little shade at Nicki Minaj during her recent appearance on "Nightline." The "Triumphant" diva chatted with Barbara Walters about what’s ahead for her career–specifically, her new gig on "American Idol."
Mariah infamously tangled with her fellow judge Nicki Minaj, whom she claims threatened to shoot her.
"It felt like an unsafe work environment. Anytime anybody is reeling threats at somebody, you know, that’s just not appropriate," said Mariah, admitting that she did hire extra security following an incident during "AI" auditions.
While Nicki declined any further comment on their dustup, she did reference it in her new single "Hell Yeah." On the track, referencing "American Idol" she raps, "I’m quick to check a b*tch if she’s outta line."
Barbara asked Mariah point-blank if she’s the person that line is referring to, and the diva had a shade-laden reply. "[I] don’t know what she’s saying. I didn’t know she sang. I thought she rapped or whatever," she said. Mariah went on to say that she doesn’t think her beef with Nicki has helped the show’s reputation. "I think it’s a classic, classy show and it didn’t need this."
She continued, "I really think this was just a crass moment." For now, Mariah said she and Nicki have made amends—right in time for the season premiere of "American Idol" on January 16.
