3. Miu Miu recruits Ava DuVernay to direct short film
What you wear tells a story, and Miu Miu is capitalizing on that idea! The design house turned to director Ava DuVernay to do a short film for a series it’s doing called Women’s Tales. Ava’s story, The Door, is about sisterhood, helping a friend in need and personal transformation, starring an incredible cast of Black actresses
"Gabrielle Union is the lead. I think she’s a woman that really embodies intelligence and beauty," said Ava, explaining why it was important for her to book the cast. "Alfre Woodard, who is our legend really, embodies wisdom in our story."
In a world where reality show cat fights mean ratings gold, Ava hopes that The Door tells a story that doesn’t get enough attention among women of color.
"I was thrilled that Miu Miu invited to participate in Women’s Tales, and I wrote a little story that I really love," said Ava. "It’s a story about helping one another. And I think we as women, we do that, but it’s not often celebrated."
