9. St. Jude Hospital does it for the kids
Some of Washingon, D.C.’s very important people gathered last night to raise money for treating the many children suffering from juvenile cancer.
At $350 a ticket, St. Jude’s Gourmet Gala is one of several events the hospital holds to ensure that children across the country don’t have to worry about hospital bills while gaining access to some of the best cancer-treatment resources available. The Mardi Gras-themed gala was filled with feathered centerpieces, zydeco music, colorful masks and curtains, adding a festive air to the serious cause.
Items such as dinner with Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema, and a 10-night vacation to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora were auctioned off during the event, which was capped off by tastings from more than 20 of D.C.’s hottest restaurants. Attendees were able to vote on their favorite bites, including hot pastrami on rye, spare rib with mashed potatoes, shrimp and grits and other delectable creations.
If great cuisine for a great cause is something that you’re interested in, St. Jude also holds events in other cities such as New York City and Miami. You can get more information at stjude.org or by calling 1-800-822-6344.
