4. Tika Sumpter joins BET drama
Tika Sumpter is rounding out the cast of BET’s upcoming hourlong drama by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil!
Akil Productions announced this week that Tika would be joining the cast of "Being Mary Jane," starring alongside Gabrielle Union and Omari Hardwick. It’s not clear what role she’ll be playing at this time. The cast also includes Latarsha Rose of The Hunger Games, Richard Roundtree and Aaron Spears.
Production for "Being Mary Jane" started Wednesday, but there’s no word on when the show will make it to air at this time.
The Akils will take a little time from the set this summer to attend the 16th Annual American Black Film Festival on June 22. They’ll be the featured guests at the A Conversation With panel discussion on June 22 starting at noon. The chat is being held at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach hotel.
