6. 2012 – LL Cool J offers a prayer
In a society that often frowns upon the use of the phrase "Merry Christmas," it’s rare that someone call for a moment of prayer, not a moment of silence, during an otherwise secular occassion. However, that’s exactly what rapper LL Cool J did in 2012, following the shocking death of Whitney Houston. He later explained that he knew no other way to pay honor to her while still celebrating the nominees and winners.
