2. ‘The Color Purple’
Oprah Winfrey famously delivered the line, “You told Harpo to beat me!” in the movie, The Color Purple. Based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize winning author, Alice Walker, it was a vivid tale about the life and trials of a young African-American woman in the early 1900s. Considered an American classic in both film and books, the story has also found success on stage as a hit musical.
